  • We did it!

    Good Morning Everyone

We did the bridge climb last night and what an experience it was! I was pretty terrified for a lot of it and totally in awe for the rest of it. To say it was spectacular would be under selling it. We got all togged up about 3pm and then we started the climb. We had so much gear on I was at least 10 pounds heavier on my way up the bridge than I was before the climb! We had a headlight (for seeing on the way down in the dark), we had a fleece, a hat, gloves, waterproof top, a hankie (clean - supplied by Bridge Climb) our glasses were tied on and we also had head phones and a pack to hear what the guide was saying. There was only three of us in our group - there is normally 12. Because we chose to do the more difficult climb (and more expensive) less people want to do it. I was overwhelmed when we got to the top. The views were spectacular. Then when the sun went down and the lights of Sydney came on, and that was just amazing. We were up there for a good half hour or more because we had to wait for the sun to set. That is what the Twilight Walk is all about. We were really glad that we chose that particular walk as we saw Sydney both in daylight and in dark. I still can't believe I did it. I kept telling myself that it was safe, which of course it is, but the cars and trains screaming past under your feet is a pretty spooky feeling and it made me dizzy just watching it. I could go on about this for hours but I don't want to bore you.

Before we did the climb we went for a boat ride round the harbour. That was brilliant! We saw the sights from a totally different angle and then on the way back they opened up the throttle and we had the thrill of our lives. It was like being on a rollercoaster, but better! We were so cold after that we had to go and get some hot food. Because of the climb we couldn't have a drink, that was a pity because we were both in need of a hot toddy!

Today, Simon is away to the aquarium and I am hoping to get my nails done. Yes, I know, such a girl! (Wifie) We have to leave here at 12 to get out to the airport and start our long journey home. It has been the weirdest holiday we have ever had. We have only been away for ten nights and so much has happened in that time, we feel all out of sorts. We are going up to Inverness on Friday for the funeral and then we are going to relax the following week, try and get our heads together and maybe go to Dunbeath. We need to see Mum as she isn't gong to the funeral. Definately not going back to work early. I do feel bad about that but circumstances are such that we need to do our own thing next week.

Well, I had better go and check my emails.
    See you all soon.

  • SUNNY CAIRNS

Good morning from a beautiful Cairns. We are in a Cafe watching the sun shine down on the buildings and trees. It is very lovely here.

For any of you checking this site and you don't know it already. My brother died on Wednesday and we will be coming home early to attend his funeral on Friday. Not what we expected at all but we have to be thankful that he didn't suffer more than he did. I will be doing the bridge walk on TUESDAY so I can still make money for CLAN.

    Have to go. Talk soon.

  • We are in Singapore

Good middle of the night to you all

We are up and ready to go for a river boat ride. Well, we would be or I should say, Simon is, I decided I should log on and update this page.

We had an uneventful journey from Aberdeen to Singapore. No hanging around and no problems when we arrived. The hotel is beautiful. All marble and smiling staff. Our room overlooks the pool and the bed is the size of two doubles put together. Totally un-necessary! I know we aren't exactly Kate Moss and Pete Doherty but we haven't put that much weight on. Maybe they are designed for Americans!!!

Yesterday we took the cable car over to Santosa. One of the beautiful islands off Singapore. The scenery was spectacular. The heat was incredible and the sweating was disgusting! I was going to say that we had spent the day there but getting up at 12 noon does not give us a whole day so we spent half the day there. We got back in the evening to shower and then go to dinner in the Chinese restaurant in the hotel. That was interesting - no sign of Happy Uncle! The food was lovely and we had it served Chinese style, one course at a time, that included the rice. It came seperately. Interesting but very tasty.

I will have to finish this off later. It is 15$ for half an hour and I have been on that long already.\
